Brrr…. Everything about winter whispers of hibernation. Whether it’s nestling into an easy chair with a warm cuppa green tea hot cocoa or snuggling up with my kids while reading in bed, the cooler climate causes me to make like a groundhog and head for cover. The urgency for comfort sings loud and strong, and the need to switch up my products goes along with it. (Although it’s remarkably warm and gorgeous lately in my part of the world!)

So when Jeannie Jarnot, founder of Beauty Heroes, asked if I’d choose a theme for November’s curation, I immediately thought about the products that envelop me like a cozy blanket. Then the joyful image of gift wrapping came to mind with all the products that I L♥VE to get wrapped up in, literally and figuratively.

What’s unique about cocooning myself in the products that Beauty Heroes curates for the online shop is that they’re chosen with a great deal of time and attention by Jeannie who is an experienced director within the spa industry and an advocate of healthy beauty. Her focus is on performance-driven ingredients that are not only effective, but also support a clean living lifestyle.  The philosophy at the heart of Beauty Heroes is Use Less, Love More, and that’s a message that’s also aligned with The Hub of Clean Living to love what you own. Beauty Heroes makes it easy for us!

Of course, it was challenging to narrow down the selection, but immediately these favorites stood out as the ones I reach for regularly.

In Fiore Lustra Illuminating Cleansing Essence, $125 + Treate Cleansing Emulsion, $70

The divine scent of jasmine in Lustra’s cleansing oil is the first to greet you with this product. There’s no other way to describe the heady aroma than utterly transformational.  The jasmine harmonizes with bergamot, rosemary, and cypress which soften it but also take it to another level.  Beauty Heroes refers to this oil as “exquisite,” and the word is no exaggeration. It works as a first step cleansing oil, followed by Treate which is equally indulgent as a complementary milky emulsion that removes all residue. This cleansing combination follows a 4-2-4 cleansing method that coaxes a meditative ritual. You can’t help but pause in your day to indulge and unwind with these cleansers. They will absolutely not dry out skin, and they will restore balance to skin and being. Even my finicky skin responds amazingly well to this duo.  Yes, I do prefer to use them together because the results are unmistakable: pores look smaller; skin is cleansed, refreshed, and oh so soft and smooth. I’m always surprised and impressed. Even with the price tag, I’d purchase again, but these are my special occasion products that I keep on reserve to help them last as long as possible.

SkinOwl Marigold Glow Beauty Steam, $48

Nothing says warmth quite like a facial steam with gorgeous botanicals that spell comfort and calming. Herbs and flowers like chamomile, rose, comfrey, and lavender soothe the senses and pave the way for other treatment products.  Other than a bowl and a towel, all you need for a facial steam is a clean face, making this step a lovely companion to ritual #1 above.

If and when I have time to indulge in a facial steam, my skin always thanks me by feeling awakened and steam cleaned. Plus, those moments under cover send me to an alternate universe and invite deep relaxation.

Bottega Organica Overnight Cream, $165

If you’re already smitten by Illuminate Eye Cream from October’s selection—and of course you are because it’s incredible!—then this cushiony cream needs to be your next product from Bottega Organica if you want to see real results. I don’t know about you, but my eye area is really illuminated. Mind you, I’ve been using it with relative consistency for over a year, since I already owned it before the Beauty Heroes box. The Overnight Cream is as rich and luxe as you’d expect from this organic, farm-grown company. It contains signature ingredient active prawn sage, in addition to French lilac, yarrow, and coneflower for powerful cell repair and renewal. I wake up to well-rested and hydrated skin every morning. I don’t think I’m imagining it, but I am seeing a brightening effect after using it with consistency too.  If your winter skin tends to get parched or dull looking, do not hesitate to splurge on this gorgeous cream.  Bottega Organica does not disappoint.

(I first wrote about it here.)

Max & Me Oils Circle of Protection, $75

This is quite simply the most extraordinary body oil I ever wrapped myself up in. It reminds me of a security blanket for body and spirit. Circle of Protection drenches me in argan, marula, and rosehip oils, while a symphony of vetiver, bourbon geranium, exotic litsea, lofty silver fir, and jasmine sing an uplifting melody for the senses. It’s truly like nothing I’ve ever tried. This is another private reserve oil because I do like to savor it for special occasions or when I need an extra special hug of high vibrational energy.  It’s uplifting, nurturing, and moisturizing all in one.

Maya Chia The Super Couple by day, $85

This vibrant oil has made its way into my daytime routine thanks to astaxanthin which is known for its potent antioxidant properties. Chia seeds are naturally anti-inflammatory, while the proprietary extraction method preserves their rich offering for the skin exceptionally well. This serum absorbs well and doesn’t leave a trace of grease , which makes The Super Couple a welcome addition under makeup. That’s especially true in the warmer weather, when lightweight options replace heavier balms and oils, but also creates a protective layer in the winter. For more about it, check out my posts here and here.

Laurel WPO anti-inflammatory serum by night, $88

I named this serum my Holy Grail (HG) serum in this post a while back, and it’s still my go-to between testing other serums or when things go awry with breakouts and inflammation (along with this brand). The name says it all.  The anti-inflammatory serum is rich in herbs and flowers which are organic, raw, and locally sourced: licorice, skullcap, helichrysum, blue chamomile, myrrh, lemon balm, and Laurel’s own biodynamic ‘house blend.’ The scent is particularly grounding as well, and it cushions my skin in comfort when it needs it most. This is the serum you want near you when you want a dose of mama’s healing broth. It’s soothing comfort for the skin. Usually after using it a couple of days, it tames my skin and my mind.

Kahina Giving Beauty prickly pear seed oil rollerball, $40

This may be the cutest little roller ball I ever laid my hands on! It’s convenient to apply and the stainless steel roller lends a cooling effect to depuff the puff. An avid user told me that whenever she forgets to apply it, her skin shows the tell-tale signs of missing out on it. Single ingredient organic prickly pear seed oil is high in Vitamins K and E, rich in amino acids and essential fatty acids, and is perfect for reducing under eye circles, moisturizing the eye area, and targeting free radical damage. I’m still in early testing, but given Kahina’s quality coupled with the price of this adorable prickly pear seed oil, you can’t go wrong.

Josh Rosebrook Enrich Hair Mask, $36 and Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator, $16-$32

By now you probably saw that Josh Rosebrook is featured in November’s Beauty Discovery box (for $38/month with membership). In it, you’ll get to enjoy both the Cacao Antioxidant Mask, Hydrating Accelerator, and a tiny sample of Ethereal, Josh’s sparkling new unisex fragrance.

The mist has been an absolute staple for YEARS, and I never go without it. It’s packaged in a plastic bottle that diffuses a perfectly even spray that won’t disrupt makeup in case you want to use it again and again (and again) to freshen up skin during the day. The one in the Beauty Heroes box is the perfect travel size and I’d hang on to that bottle and keep refilling it. It’s different from other mists in that I really feel it doing something more than merely spritzing water at my face which can seem like a non-essential step. I assure you, it is one of the most essential steps you can do for your skin and I’m working on writing another post about it. (I wrote one here but excuse the god-awful photos…as you can see, practice has helped me a lot!)

As for Enrich, this is the consummate holistic hair healer that incorporates 30 organic plant extracts to fortify hair from within. It turns my hair woes around, yet never weighs it down with product. Not. Ever. I adore it and would wrap my head in it all day if I could…  Actually, I might try that over the weekend…

Vapour Stratus Soft Focus Skin Perfector, $56 + Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation, $50

Here’s my first post about Stratus and why I love it, but didn’t expect to. I didn’t always love Vapour’s foundation but as my skin changed and needed more moisture and glow, it works like a dream! I don’t think it would work as well on very oily skin types, but I’m combination and it’s wonderful and never looks caky or flaky during the day. That’s a big deal, lemme tell you! There are some foundations that glide on like perfection but then I’ve looked in the mirror hours later in utter horror to find a hot mess on my face. Not so with Soft Focus, and that may be due to Vapour’s proprietary Herbal Enlightenment Complex, which includes an infusion of Frankincense, Tulsi, and Lotus to help sooth, calm and protect, as well as Camellia to brighten.

This lovely blend of ingredients makes its way into Stratus too, which explains why it creates an even canvas for makeup. I find that it imparts a luminous aura to skin prior to applying foundation. It also contains ingredients that help condition and improve skin, including the Herbal Enlightenment Complex, rich organic pumpkin, and toning elderberry.  Though you don’t have to follow with Vapour’s Soft Focus Foundation, I like the two together a lot.

Modern Minerals Moonstone Cream Highlighter, $30

If skin is starting to look dull, look no further than this illuminating pot that imparts a golden glow to skin and lights up the face with warmth and vitality. Winter can be such a drag on our complexions, and Modern Minerals Moonstone restores vibrance without ever looking fake, simply lit from within.  The enhanced benefits of Lotus Wei gem and flower essences, silky coconut, and a touch of rose help uplift and awaken positivity while minimizing the effects of negative emotions.

Osmia Organics Lip Doctor, $12

A mere six ingredients make this essential lip defense look deceptively simple. But considering that argan oil, avocado oil, cocoa seed butter, and olive oil lend superior moisturizing and vitamin-rich properties, this lippie is fully loaded. It glides on nice and easy and stays put thanks to beeswax, yet the creamy formula never feels gummy or waxy. The touch of lavender is the icing on the cake. It’s a year round staple for sure.
