A deal on Bottega Organica that you don't want to miss!

A few weeks ago, I dropped a big hint on Instagram and on my new Facebook page that October’s Beauty Heroes Discovery Box was worth ordering on the spot because it is such a widely coveted and beloved product and chances are it’s going to sell out fast. I am still convinced it will! Founder of Beauty Heroes Jeannie Jarnot is probably laughing because I rarely get this excited about a product, but this one is simply WOW.

By now, you probably already know that it’s a full size of Bottega Organica’s uber-luxe, uber-outrageously amazing and effective Illuminate Eye Cream (formerly Eye Illuminate) valued at $145, along with a sidekick travel-sized Cleansing Oil, $12.

As usual, Beauty Heroes matches their hero selection with the perfect quote that invites us to experience beauty on a multidimensional level.

“Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes.” — Sofia Loren via @BeautyHeroes Click To Tweet

What makes Illuminate so incredible? I have never seen results this fast and this consistent over the year that I’ve been using it: smoothing fine lines, brightening, hydrating, and overall lifting the eye area. By the way, I wrote those observations without consulting the accompanying product description. That’s purely based on my experience with it.  And yes, you heard me right: I started using it over a year ago with a tiny sample in the summer, then a full size that I reviewed briefly here.  I keep coming back to this cream. Now I don’t want to be without it.

My guess is that a deal this incredible for Bottega Organica’s eye cream and cleansing oil won’t be repeated anywhere else. It is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to enjoy a truly luxe line—a combined total of $167—for an incredibly low price.

So the secret is blown that I love it, and you may be ready to shop right away. If so, here’s your link in the box.

Read on to discover my impressions of the products.

Farm-to-Skin ingredients

The magic lies in several core ingredients that are grown on location at the Bottega Organica organic farms in Italy and upstate New York. Of course, farming for the components of the formula and then bottling them directly at the source produces a freshness, potency, and integrity that’s palpable. The brand calls it “farm-to-skin” for a reason.

Illuminate Eye Contour Cream is a total win and covers all the bases that you’d want in an eye cream, including relieving some puffiness. Just look at how each ingredient functions within the formula (thanks to the detailed description on the Beauty Heroes site):

  • Arnica – Brightening
  • Carrot Seed/Flower – Anti-Aging, Brightening
  • Coneflower – Brightening
  • Cucumber – Calming
  • Frankincense – Anti-Aging
  • Horse Chestnut – Calming
  • Olive Oil – Anti-Aging, Hydrating
  • Prawn Sage Extract – Anti-Aging

The performance is backed by documented scientific breakthroughs.

Prawn sage: the revolutionary revitalizer

One breakthrough resulted in the company selecting its star ingredient: prawn sage. Its youth promoting properties were discovered by Dr. Andrea Alimonti, a world-renowned geneticist who was studying thousands of different plants for their ability to maintain human cells in a youthful state. Prawn sage emerged as the most active extract to slow down cellular aging. Based on this research, it became the basis for the skincare line. In concert with the other ingredients, prawn sage accounts for why the products work so effectively at erasing fine lines and maintaining supple skin.

Why olive oil?

At the heart of each product is extra-virgin olive oil, as Bottega Organica found it to be “the single most effective natural carrier for anti-aging plant extracts,” according to the website. The olives are organically grown on location in Italy and then handpicked and cold pressed the same day which makes this olive oil especially rich in powerful youth-preserving ingredients such as alpha-tocopherol, polyphenols, and oleocanthal.

How’s the texture?

In a sea of oils and serums, a true cream is a welcome find, as it’s almost a novelty product where clean beauty is concerned. It feels slightly cooling on contact, likely due to the cucumber extract. It’s not a balm so it doesn’t have the greasiness that often characterizes a water-free balm.  Even so, the slightly oilier texture lends itself to night use in the warmer months and both night and day during the cooler months when my skin tends to need more “cocooning.”

This isn’t a water-based cream and instead uses beeswax to form a protective barrier over skin, as well as serving as a natural humectant (drawing water, a.k.a. hydration to the skin) that’s even more effective when coupled with glycerin. This is true for the other creams in the Bottega Organica range. For oilier skin types, I’d test these out first before splurging, even though my combination skin does extremely well with them.

Notably missing—yet challenging to accomplish in a cream—are the emulsifiers that help bind water with oil to create a creamy emulsion, toxic preservatives, artificial fragrances, colors, or synthetics. Some of the products are vegan, others are “beegan,” and all are cruelty-free.

No preservatives—say what?!

You may be saying “Hold on there! No preservatives??!!” You savvy consumer you. It’s true. We do need preservatives to protect the product from mold and bacteria, especially when there’s any form of liquid in it. Just to reassure you, Bottega Organica marries science and research with their purity and natural formulations, so there’s no need to worry on account of the absence of synthetic preservatives.

Bottega Organica intentionally incorporates plants with anti-microbial properties, including rosemary and prawn sage, which naturally preserve the product, along with olive oil’s high antioxidant activity that helps elongate a product’s freshness. The dark miron glass jars and bottles also protect the contents from sunlight.

However, the lack of preservatives does mean that there is a shorter shelf life with their products and Illuminate is one of them. Once opened, it lasts two months, which is not a very long time for a pricey cream, though refrigerating the bottles can extend their use safely. (I’m starting to seriously consider placing one of these in my bedroom. Have I gone mad?)

I confess to using mine longer, though that’s probably not ideal. Still, I can’t stand the thought of dumping it when there’s so much left in the jar and it looks, smells, and feels fine (just a wee bit of separation between the oils and the cream in my older jar, not the new one).

If you love naturally antiseptic and vibrant lemon oil, you will love this cleansing oil that can double as a shaving oil for both men and women. I have to apologize because I haven’t even tried this yet other than to sniff it while I was taking these photos! I have not been doing much oil cleansing lately other than with In Fiore’s wonderful cleansing duo as a special facial treat on weekends. (This oil followed by this creamy emulsion gently but thoroughly refine and cleanse my skin, even purging blackheads and minimizing pores. They’re amazing and I’m afraid to run out!) Other than those, my preference lately has been cleansing oils that emulsify with water and rinse off easily.

About that price tag

Personally, I’d love to see Bottega Organica offer a much smaller size of Illuminate for less money because even using this cream twice a day around my eyes, I’ve barely made a dent in it, since you need so little to make a difference. However, that is the only constructive feedback I’ve got.

Bottega Organica’s website openly addresses the steep cost of their artisanal products, which rival high end luxury creams that are usually overrated (think La Mer, Chanel, Sisley, La Prairie) and don’t come close to the purity and integrity of ingredients, nor do they rival the performance.

The website explains that the price point is related to two main aspects:

  1. A very rigorous production process that involves top quality ingredients, many sourced from our farms and formulated in the absolute absence of synthetic additives or preservatives
  2. The ongoing collaborative top-notch university-level research that ensures state-of-the-art anti-aging natural activity in every product.

As far as results go, you’ll see that this cream is worth every ounce.

With it, Beauty Heroes has ascertained its position as one of the top clean beauty subscription boxes, hands down. Even though Beauty Heroes sends me a box every month to evaluate, I subscribed to this one too! I couldn’t resist it, plus I want to repurchase several products in the Beauty Heroes Online Store and avail myself of the 15% off membership discount. That’s simply irresistible, especially considering that I’m equally hooked on Bottega Organica’s Overnight Renewal Cream, another high-performance product.

Besides, I did the calculation and by subscribing now, even if there’s a box with a product that I already own or that I don’t want, I can always gift it in December or whenever, so it’s a total win. Have you tried Bottega Organica yet? Are you hooked like I am? Let us know in the comments.
