By now, it’s a regular occurrence that opening a Beauty Heroes box elicits outbursts of joy and a great deal of jumping up and down. Since I started receiving it in November 2014, this monthly subscription service has been one of consistent value and excitement, and perhaps more importantly, a steady reminder that beauty can be fun, unhurried, and inspired.
The first message in June’s pretty package is a perfect example: “Beauty Is As Beauty Feels.” It’s a most apropos greeting for the treats inside the box. Can makeup evoke beautiful thoughts and feelings? The June 2016 Beauty Heroes selection proves that it can.
This month, Beauty Heroes reveals The Modern Minerals Emotive Makeup Collection, valued at $96, a stunning collaboration between Modern Minerals Makeup and Lotus Wei. Two lip glosses, an eyeshadow, and an exclusive new release are unlike any makeup that I’ve ever tried before, accompanied by a message worth taking to heart.
“Your mind is in every cell of your body.” – Candace Pert ⇐Tweet this!
The fusion of both Modern Minerals’ flair for style with Lotus Wei’s insight into gemstone and flower essences is a tour de force that could potentially change the face of beauty. The philosophy behind the merger truly speaks to me and my ideal of beauty.
It is founded on the intrinsic connection between the way we feel and the way we look. Both are so inherently tied that our feelings and thoughts can shape what we see in the mirror. The reverse is true as well, that how we look impacts the way we feel. That means that when those thoughts and feelings change, or our appearance changes, there is an overflow that alters the way we view ourselves and the world around us. And that, my friends, is where the shift really happens.
“We believe beauty is whole, and interconnected, and that our emotive qualities are reflected in our physical features,” says the MM website. “With mindful moods, we can empower ourselves by making thoughtful choices and living gracefully on this earth. Emotive makeup evokes feelings of compassion, love, happiness and bliss, so that all of that loveliness can be your best face forward.”

The experience begins within, further expanded by using makeup that challenges toxic emotions and enhances our well-being. And that is where this leading edge collection steps in and why it’s such a perfect fit for Beauty Heroes.
Two enticing lip glosses
Just look at these juicy, happiness-inducing colors that are ripe for the picking this summer.
Padparadscha, $25, a word that translates as ‘the color of a lotus flower at sunset,’ is the name of a rare, pink and orange sapphire. Modern Minerals captures the color in this delectable gloss that’s infused with pink camellia flowers and pink tourmaline to uplift and awaken positivity, while dispelling toxic emotions. It’s laced with a light-as-a-feather floral fragrance composed of lavender, chamomile, rose, and neroli that whispers sweet nothings from my lips. The formula contains marine collagen, natural oils, and butters to moisturize and give lips a non-tacky finish and lustrous shine. The color payoff is excellent. One swipe on the lips deposits an instant wash of color that can be layered for a bolder look. It’s absolutely melt-worthy, and I can’t get enough of it.
Citrine, $25, inspired by the peach citrine gemstone, is a peach gloss with light gold shimmer. It’s the only product in June’s box that isn’t part of the Emotive Collection. Instead this tingly and invigorating blend is part of the Invigorating Lip Gloss collection that contains an Ayurvedic lip-plumping ingredient called Swertia Chirata Extract and Asian Dragon Fruit to enhance the appearance of fullness. If my lips are looking like Brigitte Bardot, no one has told me yet, but my pout has not suffered a moment’s dryness since using these glosses either.
I love to wear these glosses layered or on their own.
Intrigued…or rolling your eyes?
I know. I know. You’re probably rolling your eyes thinking: “It’s lip gloss, Sarita, puh-leez…Get a grip!” And I don’t want to dismiss those thoughts of yours. Had I not tried these myself since last summer, I’d probably agree. Trust me, these are different, and I could sense it from day one.
I don’t know if it’s the scents, ingredients, or intentions that are entirely uplifting—or perhaps the powerful combination of all three—but there is a feel-good feeling that accompanies every application. Actually, the scent embraces me every time I use the lip glosses, causing me to step back from whatever I’m preoccupied with at that time and take a few seconds to inhale and center myself in present moment awareness. That’s no surprise. The powers of flower essences are not new to me and have been elemental in my own healing journey. They work—even when applied topically.
Sweet deal for memebers + non-members!
These glosses have been all I want to have on my lips, and actually, they’re all I’ve been wearing since trying them last summer at Indie Beauty Expo. Yeah, I’ve habitually been carrying eight irresistible MM lip glosses…in my bag…totally not joking. The good news is that if you find you need more than the two gorgeous colors that come in the box (and who doesn’t?), they’re all sold in the Beauty Heroes Shop.
Every purchase of $100 earns Beauty Heroes members and non-members an Agent Nateur Deodorant Holi(stick) that smells fantastic and totally works (also happens to be Josh Rosebrook’s favorite pick here).
An eye shadow + new product launch
The lip glosses pair beautifully with the shimmery warm pink and peach hues of the Rose Quartz – Flower Infused Eye Shadow, $16, a coconut rose eye shadow that contains rose extracts that have antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties to help replenish and rejuvenate skin. The formula is designed not to crease or dry out the delicate eye area thanks to the addition of rose petal, honeysuckle, and vitamin E extract, blended with coconut for natural hydration. I’m not much of a shimmer gal, but my little ladies adore this shadow, and I feel great about letting them play with clean makeup that awakens the gorgeous goddess within them.
This month’s Beauty Heroes also offers the exclusive launch of Modern Moonstone flower infused cream highlighter, $30. Since turning 45, a boost of luster restores a glow to skin, and this silky, sheer touch of soft gold accents all the right features. I’m still testing whether or not the addition of coconut is an issue for my skin, but so far so good. No breakouts.
I really think this box will sell out like the last one, so if you want the June 2016 Hero product collection, head over now and click that subscribe button on the Beauty Heroes website. Subscriptions are for 3, 6, or 12 months, still at the phenomenal $39 per month price, and each box gets better and better. A little bird told me that there’s something very exciting coming in July too and you’ll be very, very happy! As you can see, Beauty Heroes knows how to deliver feel-good beauty from the inside and out.
Big hearts & flowers! XO

*affiliate links in post. I became a Beauty Heroes Ambassador because I saw the value in each box and aligned fully with the impact of delivering positive beauty each month. All opinions my own.
When I receive my box 2 days ago, honestly, I’m not impressed with make-up items. I’m simply spoil by the skin care selections of previous months. I still have the high of Mahalo balm from last month. Having said that, I did try the red lipgloss and the highlighter. I do like them enough, the color and shimmer is subtle. I think what would work, if they do decide to include makeup items, is also provide a guide on how to use / style them, such as highlighter and eye shadow. This would be so helpful to me, a makeup challenged gal who only apply lipstick in the morning.
Also first time posting here. I love how you keep the post fresh and different from other beauty blogs.
Hey! Thanks for sharing. I totally hear you on being makeup challenged. That’s why I shared a post last week about working with a green beauty makeup artist, even over Skype, because it helps a lot (there’s a lovely discount too). On the Beauty Heroes site, they do offer some tips here: http://bit.ly/20WPRBK. Going forward, makeup will be introduced as a separate box for those who want to get it, rather than as part of the regular service, so Beauty Heroes heard your feedback! As for me, I rarely use eye shadow, but I do love a well-placed highlighter. The rule of thumb for highlighter use is to place it on parts of your face where you want to draw attention and light. So I use it on the apples of my cheeks, a bit over my brow bone and under, sometimes the inner corners of my eyes, and the cupid’s bow right in the center of my upper lip. The fun part of makeup is simply playing with it and not always knowing where everything goes, but simply seeing what you like and don’t like, with discretion and feedback from good friends. I hope the tips help and that you continue enjoying this gorgeous selection. Knowing what’s in it elevates the makeup from the typical fare to something truly special. XO
Hi Sarita, I am a new subscriber and relatively new to green beauty. I’ve been enjoying your blog and how eloquently you describe our fascination with cosmetics and self care. I have to admit I find myself nodding to everything I read. However, I was not so enthusiastic about this post and beauty heroes’ last box. It’s probably because I don’t really get the ’emotive’ quality of the cosmetics. I also don’t understand how a gem’s essence can be infused in cosmetics. But all that aside, the quality of the modern minerals cosmetics is fine. I was actually happy to see that the lip glosses BH included did not have very strong and lingering scents as others I have tried from that same line. The colors are also beautiful. Thanks for writing such a nice blog!
Hi Rebeca, thanks for sharing and I totally hear you! Fortunately, I’ve had years of experience with flower essences, so I’m familiar with how well they work and I’m sensitive to the energies in the products that I use and pick up on subtleties. That’s how I know that the essences do make a difference and take the Emotive Collection up a few notches when it comes to their effect on the body. That said, it’s fine not to “get it.” I think that’s the fun of discovery too, so being aware of what’s in them and the good intentions that are infused in them, also helps create a shift when using them. Perhaps you will begin to detect some small changes and perhaps not, but at the very least, the colors and feel will bring enjoyment to you and light up your look. Thank you for taking the time to comment and letting me know. XO
