Not many brands have Josh Rosebrook’s reputation. Given his mentions in Vogue, ELLE, W Magazine, and others, the cliché “the man, the myth, the legend” may aptly apply.

Look him up to see the reviews. It doesn’t take long to find fans raving about the entire line—nearly unheard of in the beauty world where those in the know pick and choose faves and must-haves like plucking good raspberries from bad.

Another thing fans know is that his products deliver—not in a hyped up way, but rather in a way that lives up to their designated purpose. Actually, I’m spritzing this wonder as I type, and my skin perks up instantly. His Hydrating Accelerator mist is quite simply the best I’ve found.

That’s high praise indeed, given the considerable competition. But meeting the man himself, you’ll find that the word “competition” likely doesn’t enter his lexicon much.

When asked to run sessions at the first W.E.L.L Summit in Boston, MA in November, it wasn’t hair or skin care that Josh wanted to talk about. It was meditation—something that this man has been practicing since he was 18. The effects are evident.

In his peaceful way, Josh does not shy away from holding brands up to scrutiny for ingredients and questionable claims, in much the same way that he is scrupulous with his own formulas. His recent Mind Body Green articles and blog posts clear up common skin and hair misconceptions and cause us to rethink beauty in its current form—his views on anti-aging a case in point.

Having met him and having experiencing his line with outstanding results for many years (there are some products I will never be without!*), I was excited to hear that Josh would be at an event hosted by my friend Ali Bartolone Gill, founder of new web store and pop-up shop, Verdant Beauty.

It gives me a rush to talk about these two outstanding people together in one blog post. I met Ali at a NYC green beauty event in 2013, and we’ve been fast friends ever since. It is not hard to love this straight-talking natural mama of two. She’s grounded in a way that makes you feel steady on a ship in the midst of a stormy sea.

She launched her blog, Verdant Beauty, shortly after that meeting, always with the intention of turning it into a shop that would showcase her favorite finds, among them green beauty classics like Josh Rosebrook, R.L. Linden, Meow Meow Tweet, Kahina Giving Beauty, Habit, and Axiology. She finally made it happen at the end of 2015.

“I am really wowed by the entrepreneurial spirit and care behind all of the products created by the brands on my site,” she said about how she hand-picked them.

Not just another web store

What sets Verdant Beauty apart is Ali’s direct marketing approach, ascribing the words “Safe Accessible Luxury” to describe her motto of bringing the virtual shopping experience into real time. For Ali, it’s the live interactive piece that counts. And don’t we all crave a little more of that—especially when it comes to girl talk and beauty products that need to be touched, sniffed, and tested first?

“I really want to bring green beauty not only to those who have already converted but to those who have traditionally used conventional products,” Ali explained to me in an email. “Through my parties and pop ups, I hope to reach the converted and those who have either not known how to access green beauty or haven’t thought it was ‘for them.'”

The magic is in the green beauty meetup and those of us who have been lucky enough to attend any of her intimate gatherings couldn’t agree more. This level-headed mama-boss knows how to share beauty products in a way that is entirely authentic and non-salesy. In fact, she uses and loves everything she carries, bar none, so she’s speaking from experience and knowledge.

What she’s loving right now

“I stand behind all of the products on the site,” she said. “I use each of them myself! That said, one of my recent favorites is the Beldi soap from Kahina Giving Beauty. Over the years, I’ve also gone through countless bottles of their Argan Oil. I love Josh Rosebrook’s haircare line. I live for the styling cream and the shampoo has been a lifesaver for my scalp and hair. From RL Linden, I’m obsessed with La Balmba Rosa and the Close to Me deodorant, which I alternate with Meow Meow Tweet’s Baking Soda-Free deodorant in Grapefruit. Meow Meow Tweet soaps also have a standing place in our family’s shower and bath routines. My kids like to pick out the next soap from the lineup. My go-to lipsticks are currently Axiology’s Worth, a beautiful orange-red, and Theory, a warm rose-brown. And Habit’s nail polishes not only last forever but are great for your nails. I love Belle de Jour for a perfectly polished everyday nail.”

What to expect at the Josh Rosebrook + Verdant Beauty evening

This Thursday evening, guests will have a rare opportunity to enjoy an after-work soiree with Josh Rosebrook and will have a chance to test out some of Verdant Beauty’s other product lines (hello, lipstick swatches!).

“The event will be a meet-and-greet with Josh, an informal environment where guests can chat with Josh, who is one of the kindest and smartest makers in green beauty, as well as some of the sweetest and smartest green beauty bloggers, and each other!” Ali said of the plan.

“They will also have the chance to shop from his line as well as select options from Verdant Beauty’s other brands.”
