Wow!  I’m deeply moved by the responses you had to my last post “What price are you willing to pay for beauty?” Thank you for the outpouring of comments on my blog, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Both brand owners and brand lovers chimed in to the discussion.

Many companies agreed that the “active” ingredients list reflected the actual investment into their lines—which ultimately, says so much about them. It also proves that their production requirements are changing the face of beauty on more levels than we can see.  It is encouraging to find consumers who are aware enough to demand a higher stringency too. Humble gratitude to you all.

The topic segues seamlessly into another brand with a capsule collection that epitomizes these higher principles—Mahalo Skin Care emanating from Hawaii.

Mahalo magic meets Spa Heroes

What is it about the beauty of Hawaii that not only awakens the spirit, but also infuses the skin care lines that originate from the islands with a magic all their own?

It is no surprise to find that beauty industry expert and Spa Heroes founder, Jeannie Jarnot, curated one of the most exotic lines produced in this paradise for its July subscription box. This is the big secret that I couldn’t reveal in my first post about Spa Heroes a couple of weeks ago—but I’m thrilled to share it with you here!

When it comes to gorgeously concentrated and effective formulas, Mahalo Eco-Chic Skin Care has got it down. As review after review stream through my blogroll, I witness ongoing confirmation that Mahalo is rapidly winning over the beauty community. It’s easy to see why.

At the heart of Mahalo is its name—defined as gratitude, esteem, and respect. Few people embody the meaning the way that its founders do. In the interactions that I’ve had with Maryna Kracht (her husband is also partner in the business), it’s clear that creating extraordinary products with stellar ingredients is more than a business—it is a passion built on devotion and, of course, immense gratitude. That translates into a product line that’s imbued with unparalleled energy and love.

With Jeannie’s eye for elegant and non-toxic formulas, it didn’t take long for a magical partnership to form between the two—so much so that Maryna chose to introduce a totally new, never-been-released product in July’s Spa Heroes box. I think that it’s going to blow you away! I know that it has captured my senses in every way and continues to captivate me.

But first, let me introduce you to the full-sized hero product that will accompany it in the box. It’s a treasure in its own right.

The Pele Mask

IMG_20150212_223108

In case you didn’t see my earlier post about Spa Heroes here, each box contains a main product that’s called the “Hero” which is essentially the best-seller or cornerstone product of the chosen brand. Once the product is selected, it is then tested by over 30 spa experts—yes, you read that right!—to monitor the product’s efficacy and to determine whether or not it should be included as one of the items in the box. This month, Mahalo’s Pele Mask earned hero status by this esteemed group.

The grey-brown powder may remind you of ashes for good reason. It contains actual Volcanic Ash Clay, plus a potent blend of skin-enhancing ingredients as described on the website:

“The mask is supercharged by ‘botox-plant’ Hibiscus, anti-inflammatory Turmeric, collagen-boosting vitamin C, anti-aging Neem leaf, oxygenating Cayenne, sebum-balancing Witch Hazel, wrinkle-fading Guava, acne-fighting Holy Basil, toxin-magnet Volcanic Ash Clay and bacteria-absorbing Activated Bamboo Charcoal.”

When combined with water, the Pele Mask—aptly named after the Volcano Goddess—comes to life bubbling, foaming, and fizzing. Water activates the formula and turns it into a light mousse.

Once on the skin, I feel it working on several levels. For one, it’s nourishing my skin with the hibiscus, guava, and vitamin C, healing and taming redness and inflammation with neem, basil, and turmeric, and finally detoxifying with the clay and charcoal.

What all this means is that, unlike some purely clay masks, your skin won’t feel tight, flaking, or dry after use, but rather comfortably deep cleansed, clarified, and impeccably smooth. I also notice that my pores are minimized and blackheads less visible (they look like they’ve been vacuumed out). Mind you, I leave this mask on for a lot longer than is probably recommended, and I still get fabulous results.

Rinsing is a bit of a challenge after it hardens, so I use a light cleanser like my staples Om Aroma & Co.’s Pearl Cleanser for sensitive skin or YÜLI Halcyon Cleanser to remove all residue—otherwise I do find a hint of dark flecks left on my skin.

Maryna pairs the mask with a stunning handmade ceramic bowl and bamboo-handled application brush on her website as shown above.

What further isolates the mask from others is the refill option. When you’ve emptied the contents of the eco-friendly bamboo container, you can ask for a refill with the code listed under the lid, thus reducing waste. Using bamboo as the packaging is also ingenious as it’s a highly renewable resource. If you’ve never seen the way bamboo grows, it’s a lot like weeds in a garden—you pluck one and ten more appear in short order. Plus, if you tend to drop things in the bathroom—ahem—then you’ll appreciate that it’s not glass.

Intro to Vacation Glow

mahalo vacation glow

Get ready to envelope your body in something truly out of this world. Maryna lovingly calls Vacation Glow a skin “treat,” rather than a product—and I can understand why! She shared in an email:

“The custom subtle energy infusion of healing love, balance, and joy is an epitome of the spirit of Aloha…I want everyone in the world to experience the feeling of living in Hawaii and the juicy energies of these magical Islands. Close your eyes…inhale…exhale the whole universe (of the meanings of Mahalo ‘breath of the divine,’ or ‘in the divine breath’).”
Indeed, Maryna achieved this lofty intention in Vacation Glow. You will instantly find yourself immersed in a magical experience that, according to the description, fuzes the essence of acupuncture and the healing power of crystals to deliver an unparalleled treatment on a cellular level.

I am entranced by the vibrant golden hue, illuminated by the succulent ingredients brimming over with life force energy. Equally impressive is that the serum preserves 100 percent of the plant’s molecular structure for a radically different plant-based product. It’s absolutely palpable.

What will strike you on application is the intoxicating aroma that somehow captures the essence of Hawaii in the ambrosial blend of sandalwood, geranium, frankincense, pikake, tuberose, and ylang ylang. The result is a heady perfume that’s sweet, floral, and utterly delicious. I can’t get enough of it and my skin drinks it in on contact.

It is no small feat to retain the integrity of the precious, organic oils in the formula—some indigenous to Hawaii—yet you will find that to be the case. Here’s the full list of ingredients:

INGREDIENTS: persea americana (avocado) oil*, macadamia integrifolia (macadamia) oil*, aleurites moluccans (kukui) oil*, argania spinosa (argan) oil*, helianthus annuus (sunflower) oil*, calophyllum inophyllum (Polynesian tamanu) oil*, hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn) CO2 extract*, calendula officinalis (calendula) flowers*, prunus dulcis (sweet almond) oil*, tocopherol (vitamin e), santalum paniculatum (Hawaiian sandalwood) oil*, pelargonium graveolensaroma (geranium) oil*, boswellia carterii (frankincense) oil*, cananga odorata (yang yang) oil*, jasminum sambac (pikake) oil*, polianthes tuberosa (tuberose) oil*, ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), mica

The full-sized delight will come in a 3.4 oz bamboo bottle with pump, retailing for $90, and will first be available on August 6th at A Night for Green Beauty.

Meanwhile, you can find it exclusively through the Spa Heroes subscription box, available to order for only two weeks from July 1st until July 15 or purchase the full size from the online shop. That means that you’ll be receiving a juicy 1 oz. sized Vacation Glow bottle with a pipette, alongside the Pele Mask, which normally retails for $64, for only $39. Hello, fantastic deal!

I’ve been so excited to share this box with my readers that you’ll get an extra $10 off the first box with the code LOVESPA—so that’s only $29 for these two heroic products. (Even I’m raising my hands in the air saying that’s incredible!)  Membership entitles you to other benefits like 15% off all items in the online shop, including the new full-sized Vacation Glow, among other sensational picks (I described my repeat purchases here).

So how will you be getting your glow on this summer? My glow has already arrived.
