With the holidays upon us, I can’t think of a better way to deal with stress than by turning to flower essences. The next time your nerves ignite with sparks, spritz a dose of Bach’s Rescue Remedy under your tongue and take a deep breath. You will discover just how potent flower essences can be as your body eases into a relaxed state almost immediately.

In my last weeks of pregnancy when I was too anxious to sleep, Rescue Remedy lulled me into peaceful slumber many a night and kept me centered during natural childbirth. I give it to my kids when they feel scared or can’t settle, and it instantly soothes them. The right flower essence formula can deliver dramatic results safely with no side effects and no addictive qualities.

Healers have long harnessed the medicinal powers of herbs, spices, essential oils, and other plants to treat a range of issues from topical wounds to chronic illnesses. When it comes to flower essences, the healing taps into the mental-emotional dimension—restoring harmony to the soul.

Perhaps this statement by Dr. Edward Bach, father of the original 38 flower essences, sums up the philosophy behind holistic therapies best:

“Disease is solely and purely corrective; it is neither vindictive nor cruel, but it is the means adopted by our own souls to point out to us our faults, to prevent our making greater errors, to hinder us from doing more harm, and to bring us back to the path of Truth and Light from which we should never have strayed.” (Source)

When I read that statement, I couldn’t help but say “Wow!” Clearly a trailblazer in the 1930’s, Dr. Bach viewed disease as both a warning sign that we have strayed off course and an opportunity to realign with our original Source.  Amazing, right?

To that end, he used the essence of each flower to recalibrate the entire system as a whole. By bringing the energetic system into attunement, the rest of the body follows suit—often resolving illnesses without the need for conventional medical treatment.*

To give some examples, Dr. Bach found that the essence of Scleranthus helped overcome indecision, Olive relieved mental exhaustion, Beech released intolerance and critical mindsets, Holly could be used in situations of extreme jealousy, Larch treated feelings of inferiority, and so on. As with all healing modalities, the efficacy of the method is only as good as the qualified practitioner. When it comes to finding someone gifted at their craft, nothing equals word-of-mouth references. In my next posts, I will be sharing two flower alchemists who have earned high acclaims and reviews across the board.

Mainly, though, it is through interfacing with their flower essence blends that I have come to know and trust their mastery. I can’t wait to share them with you!

It is thanks to them that the only sparks around here will be those that we light ourselves.

Have you worked with flower essences before? What results did you find?
