This is a facial steam that I make that is simple to do. It calms my spirit, purifies the skin, as well as increases cellular hydration.
- Add a handful of dried herbs and flowers. I used this gorgeous blend: FIG + YARROW Spring Herbal Steam bought on BEAU.TEA.BAR.
- Add boiling water.
- Throw a towel over your head, place cleansed face over the bowl, and enjoy the soft fragrance while the steam works its magic.
- Take a moment to recognize that these tranquil moments are precious.
- After the steam cools (about 15 minutes or less), wash off impurities that rise to the surface of the skin with a gentle cleanser. Today’s pick: YULI Halcyon facial cleanser.
- Follow with a mask of your choice to absorb any toxins. Today I used Osmia Organics Detox Exfoliating Mask.
My skin feels refreshed, purified, and clean. Plus the time doing something kind for myself nourishes my being. That allows me to be able to go out and care for others in a healthier, more fulfilled way.

That tin of dried herbs looks so beautiful! I’ve not done face steaming before, but would love to try. I heard you shouldn’t steam if you’re having acne/active breakouts, is that true?
Thank you, Ru. I really think it depends on whether the skin issues stem from an underlying heat (yin) or cold (yang) imbalance in your body. For me, I do well with hot saunas and heat, so the steam is very beneficial. Also, fortunately, even though I do breakout all the time, it’s not full-blown acne, so the steam doesn’t aggravate the condition but rather allows my skin to sweat out the toxins. Plus the practice of taking some time for a steam feels so good! Please let me know if you decide to try it. The Fig + Yarrow blend is absolutely lovely. xo
LOVE THIS! I love the whole process, thanks for the steps, it sounds divine!
I’m so happy you enjoyed the post, Kathryne. The simpler, the better, IMHO 🙂 xo
