the carrots
After reading kimberlyloc.com’s stellar review of Carrot con Leche, I knew that I had to bite into this brand fast. Let’s just clear something up right off the bat—I’m cwazy about this wascally carrot infused line by Jacq’s Organics. The lovely founder, Barbara Jacques, knew what she was doing when she created her products.

Seriously, if you’re looking for the ideal summer serum offering mild sun protection with hydrating and regenerating properties, you just found it! This oil is practically—and surprisingly—weightless considering the many beneficial oils in it like apricot kernel oil, almond oil, sea buckthorn berry oil, pumpkin seed oil, and, of course, carrot seed oil. That’s a bunch of free-radical scavenging vitamins right there. But it doesn’t stop at that. Aloe vera and green tea give it an extra punch of protective power, along with vitamin E, another skin soother and scar healer.
the serum, $28
Ingredients: Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Seed Oi, Rosa Canina Fruit Oi, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green tea) Leaf Extract, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Oil, Calendula officinalis CO2 extract, Hippophae rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn Berry) CO2 extract and GMO-Free Vitamin E.
As for the perfect complement to a lightweight serum, Jacq’s Organics kindly sent along a sample size of the Carrot con Leche soap. Unlike many bar soaps, this one cleanses without stripping the skin, leaving it hydrated and refreshed. I love the addition of milk in this formula. The naturally occurring lactic acid in milk mildly exfoliates to remove impurities and resurface the skin. Paired with a Dew Puff konjac sponge, this lightly sudsing cleanser is a formidable remover of grime and makeup. A few other unexpected ingredients like sugar—another natural exfoliator—purifying basil, and fish oil make this soap truly unique.
the soap, $11
Ingredients: Saponification of *Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, *Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Sucrose (Sugar), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit, *Carrot, * Milk, Calendula Officinalis Flower (Caledula) infused Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil infused Ocimum Basillicum (Basil) Oil, Fish Oil and Vitamin E. **Certified Organic
For oily/combination skin gals like myself, this duo make the ideal summer companions. I’ll have to get the Revitalizing Toner to complete the trio [lookin’ at you Travel sets!], since lately my favorite way to apply skin oils is by spritzing toner into my palm, mixing it with one to two drops of serum, warming it in my hands, and then gently pressing it into my skin. This allows the best penetration of product, sealing in hydration, without leaving an abundance of oil on the surface of my skin.
Crunch on this
Barbara Jacques started her eco-chic, socially responsible company after her own bout with cancer while pregnant. Rather than focus on the frightening reality of discovering a tumor during pregnancy, Barbara chose to make the world a safer place for her child and for future generations. She developed Jacq’s Organics as a line of skin, bath, and body care products that are family-friendly, environmentally-friendly, results-oriented, and kid approved—all factors that are always on my radar.
While I have not “met” Barbara, through interactions on social media like Twitter, Google plus, and Facebook, she seems like a wonderful person with a bright mission. I can see using her well-priced products for the long haul and will definitely be making another stop on the website soon.
[How do you feel about the larger font? Maybe it’s my eyes but it’s easier for me to read. Ok. It IS my eyes. Maybe I need to crunch on a few more carrots.]
Sounds like some good stuff–particularly the serum–did you say it offers sun protection too? Barbara’s personal story is powerful & inspiring.
Isn’t her story inspiring, Josie? I am awed by people who turn around an experience and empower themselves and others because of it. As far as the oils, here’s a helpful chart that gives the SPF number of many of them, including carrot: http://ediblefacial.com/2013/06/17/surprising-info-about-skin-oils-that-you-should-know/ One disclaimer, the oil must be in its full potency, as in raw and organic, to provide the highest level of sun protection. Great to see you here, my friend. xoxo
I LOVE this story and this post- how terrifying for her, but so amazing that she was able to take that bad news and turn it into a new healthy company for other moms and moms to be. I love this. Good for her- all of these look awesome, I will have to check them out! GREAT post! – Kathryne
So inspiring, right? I’m so happy that you enjoyed the post, Kathryne. Definitely check them out. 🙂
I was pleasantly surprised that the serum came in such a big bottle! 2oz for that price is unbelievable. I’m really looking forward to try this, it’s been sitting in my basket of unopened goodies!
It really is generously sized. I can’t wait for you to try it and to read your impressions, Ru 🙂
