cw skincare serums

If you don’t know Cecilia Wong, you’re missing out. You’ll find this talented esthetician at her salon in NYC giving decadent facials to celebs and repeat clients like me. Or she’s covering her face in food—not due to bad aim—but because of food’s skin-loving and therapeutic properties that helped her heal teenage acne and balance out her skin. Here she discusses her signature ingredient: Black Currant Oil and included two of her favorite DIY facial recipes that incorporate it.

What are the skin-loving benefits of black currant oil?

Black currant oil has so many skin loving benefits—high dose of vitamin C (it has 5 x more than an orange); rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and omega 6 fatty acids; reduces inflammation and swelling; and helps bind moisture within the skin to prevent itching, dry skin.

What products include this ingredient?

Since this is the core ingredient in my skincare line, all except peel mask, capillary strengthening serum and my newest facial toner (rose serum spray).

What results can you expect to see?

Hydrated plump skin; rashes, redness diminished; smooth texture; rejuvenated and glowing skin [Um…Yes, please!]

What customers are saying about it…

“Winter is fast approaching and yet, when I put a few tiny drops of Cecilia Wong Skincare’s Reviving Black Currant Serum on the palm of my hand to start my day each morning it is just like spring is still here! I love the scent, fresh and soft–not overpowering. Just smelling the scent makes me feel happy! The happiness continues as I put the oil on my face. It’s like my face wakes up and goes ‘rise and shine’ which is an added benefit as I usually am not a morning person! The serum makes my skin look and feel smooth and it has a glow all day. My skin feels hydrated and nourished. I feel in a way that the serum also offers an added layer of protection for my sensitive skin as I go about my day in this busy city. I love that all the ingredients are natural and organically grown, too. It is obvious that Cecilia Wong puts a great deal of thought and care into her skincare products. We are so fortunate that she does so and that we have the opportunity to use and reap the benefits from her products. My face thanks her! “

“I’ve used so many serums in my lifetime but this is the best ever. I’ve been using it for about 2 years now religiously but you see an instant results with this. The ingredients are all so delicious and good for the skin. The texture is perfect—not greasy or heavy. The best part—all you need is 2-3 drops. In the winter I use a another drop just to keep my skin protected..The serum keeps my skin well hydrated and plump. I love this stuff! “

Bonus question: Name one product that you can’t live without. (Just for fun, cuz we all want to know!)

I actually have a few, but if I have to choose it would be the Rescue Blemish Peel Treatment (I love facial masks). I use this daily overnight and wake up blemish free.

DIY Masks

Omega firming Mask
  • 3-4 drops of black currant oil
  • 1 egg white
  • Splash of aloe juice
  • Mix all together and apply, leave on for 15 minutes and rinse
Berry Enzyme Peel Mask
  • Handful of strawberries
  • Handful of blueberries
  • Handful of raspberries
  • Puree all in blender and add 3 drops of black currant oil
  • Apply for 10-15 minutes

Strawberries contain natural malic acid that may boost collagen.

Edible Facial’s Take

“Please, sir, may I have some more?” [Said with strong British accent, Oliver style.] That’s the kind of reaction I have when using Cecilia Wong’s products or lying on her table for a spa treatment.

As shared in the review above, the Black Currant Serum takes me to my happy place too (wait ’til you get a whiff!)

Read this incredible list of ingredients:

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Ribes Nigrum (Blackcurrant) Seed Oil, Daucus Carota (Carrot) Seed Oil, Rubus Ideaus (Red Raspberry) Seed Oil, Vaccinium Corymbosum (Blueberry) Seed Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil,  Argania Spinosa (Argan) Oil, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Oil, Tocopherols (100% essential oils) Vegan

I’ve also tried the Rescue Blemish Treatment mask overnight like Cecilia suggests. It worked wonders for my oily, blemish prone skin. I’ll probably do this once every two weeks now that it’s winter, or as needed. In summer, I could probably use this a lot more for overnight healing and prevention.

If you live in NYC, what are you waiting for? A personal invitation? Ok. Here’s one right now. I love going and I’m sure you will too!
